8/10/11 WIUW: Butterflies and Cupcakes

Today we tackled Funfetti cake mix. I think it very well may be my daughter's favorite.
I made the batter (myself) while her and Sebastian ate lunch. After lunch they wanted to play with the Oobleck (found here) some more. Yep day 3 of play. This stuff is very well loved, haha.
After gloop play (and cleanup!), it was on to dessert!
 I made 12 cupcakes and put the rest of the batter into a small cake pan. She used that for her Butterflies. They were standard cake pop taste (found here) but with a fun cute new look!
Skylar painted the inside of 5 butterfly molds with food color, the poured in her vanilla candy melts. She let that harden, added her cake pop filling, topped with more candy melt and let harden.
Sebastian painted letter molds with food color and I filled them with the candy melt, and put in fridge to harden.Next I let Sebastian chose a color for icing (he chose blue) and I frosted the cupcakes. Skylar added the letters Sebastian colored to the cupcakes as toppers. Very cute! Today was fun! Scroll on for pics!                                        More Gloop Love!!

Skylar's Birthday Cakes

So for Skylar's actual birthday she wanted to make a cake all by herself. While we were out and about she picked up her ingredients and we headed back home. She completely baked her funfetti cake by herself (the only thing I did was pour the oil-she got the measuring cup out-because it was new and she didn't want to spill it, lol AND I put them in and took them out of the oven...safety first and all that haha) She also decorated this cake by herself. I mixed the colors and showed her how to make up her bags (how to attach tips with a coupler, that sort of thing) but let her work solo. The cake mix made 2 9" round cakes, so she gave me a layer to do as well, lol. I am NO cake decorator but this is still fun. I am pretty new to all this as well, so it's a lot of fun doing a project with her we can do together. Here are some pics

March2,11 (WIUW:mashed potatoes)

Sorry I am so late getting this on here!!!
So today I decided he can help with a dinner item. Mashed Potatoes. And this is how you make them:

Step1: decided how many potatoes you will need (1 per child 1-2 per adult depending on potato size)

Step2: have you helpful daughter rinse them off

Step3: Have an adult peel and cut into small squares (Mommy's job)

Step4: add cut potatoes to a pot, cover w/water and your favorite seasonings. Bring to boil and boil uncovered until soft (10-12 minutes)

Step5: remove from pot, drain water and decide on your fillings (ours change alot, but tonight was butter, milk, and cream cheese)

Step6: add your fillings

Step 7: Mash it all together (Sebastian loved this part!!)

Step 8: Add your potatoes to the rest of your meal (tonight it was Caribbean pork, and steamed veggies)
