April 4,11 (MM: Butterflies & Clouds)

Today we decided to do 2 projects. The first was a paint transfer butterfly and the second was an idea I stole from my friend Rachel! That project was a cotton ball cloud.
The Butterfly was super fun and well loved by both kids! I folded a piece of construction paper in half and (roughly) cut out a 1/2 a butterfly. That way when you open it you get the whole thing, like we all did with hearts as children. I then taped it to Sebastian's tray (while folded) and let him chose 3 colors of paint. He chose red, white and blue cuz that's how he rolls, haha. I poured out a small dallop of each color directly onto the butterfly. He used his hands to smear it all around. Next I removed the butterfly from his tray, unfolded it and folded it the opposite way onto itself. I smoothed the two sides together, with Sebastian helping me. Then when you unfold it you get a beautiful tye-dyed effected butterfly! AND as a bonus, an extremely messy toddler. But that is all part of the fun right?
Skylar did one too but was unhappy with how hers turns out. She didn't blob up her paint enough and wants to do this again.
Sebastian wanted to pait some more so I gave him another sheet of paper to use his leftover paint on, then it was a fast cleanup (to get up most of the paint) and onto the cloud!

Rachel did hers a bit differently I think, but here is how we created ours. I (again, roughly) cut a cloud shape from blue construstion paper and poured Elmers glue all over it. Sebastian and I both smeared it all over. The we tour up some cotton balls and adheared them to the cloud shape. Sebastian did freak out a little when the cotton started sticking to him so I had to create a silly "Cloud stuck on me" song to get him back laughing. In the end his project turned out beautifully, as did Skylar's cloud!

March 30,11 (WIUW:mini cheesecakes+)

Today was fabulous. Sebastian was feeling better (I kept him away from all smokers and it made a huge difference in his breathing. Didn't need his puffer at all today). We made his grandmother a lil craft. Each child got a textured tile and painted them using Elmer's Squeeze Paint. These were great on the cleanup and both kids enjoyed using them. Obviously I had no place to actually grout and put the tiles, so we glued them to thick cardboard and she can use them for Flower Pot place mats or something to that effect.
For our cooking bit, we opted for no bake cheesecake. Instead of doing one big cake, we made it into a dozen mini cupcake sized cheesecakes. Everything was from a box so the steps were simple. I added the graham cracker crumbs, sugar, and melted butter into a bowl and had Sebastian mix it together. Well he had a hard time with this because apparently eating it was a much better option! Once I convinced him to help fill the cupcake wrappers, we scooped out about a tablespoon of crust into each wrapper and pressed down. (and he stole a few more bites, lol) Then it was onto adding milk to the premade powered filling. Skylar started this process, and I finished it up. Then I added the mixture to the wrappers. Again, Sebastian (with the help of his Sissy) had no problems licking the bowl and beaters. A quick hour of chilling in the fridge and YUMO.
Skylar also glued a paper flag that said Happy Birthday Maw maw on one side, From Skylar and Sebastian on the other to a bamboo skewer and put it in a mini cheesecake to accompany their gift. It was really cute and sadly I forgot to take a photo of that. Sad face, but that was the ONLY downside. This was a very fun day and both kids really had fun and that makes me a happy Momma Monster!

March23,11 (WIUW: Cookies)

Today we did the sugar cookie thing I wanted to do before and Hubby threw the dough away, grr.
Basically I just took a roll of store bought dough and cut them into circles.

Then I gave Sebastian 2 cookie and some food coloring on a plate and let him "Paint" his cookie. (before baking) He painted for a while, but then just wanted to eat the raw dough, so I had to say "No" to which he got angry and refused to paint anymore. He just watched Sissy instead and waited for them to be ready to eat.

Skylar and I teased him that his looked like bloody chicken prints. His hands were also a horrid sight. Haha, oh well. It'll come off...eventually! The main thing was he had fun, until I said the "N" word! :)

Skylar, however, took his actions as a good thing because it gave her more cookies to color. Once she realized it was staining his skin, she stopped "painting" and moved on to various sprinkles. She loved the idea of painting cookies but had picture day at school the next day, so she had to be careful.

Once they came out of the oven we all tasted them and they were so yummy! Sebastian ate one, and the rest of us monsters had 2. We gave the leftovers to the grandparents. This was so fun!

Birthday Cards

So day we made birthday cards for Daddy. Sebastian made his on a green piece of construction paper while Skylar chose yellow. I wrote the greeting on the front and then traced his hand. Sebastian then used his markers and drew beautiful pictures inside the card. Skylar also used markers and stamps on her card. They turned out perfect! Skylar was really disappointed in hers cuz she rushed through it. But I loved it, of course I'm mommy, I love everything she creates, LOL

Wrapper Art

Next we did a project using cupcake wrappers, markers, glue, glitter and construction paper. Skylar did hers on her own and I helped Sebastian. He loved dumping the glitter on and squeezing the glue from the tube. This was a quick and easy project that both kids really enjoyed and I can see doing again! Big fun!!
